Veterinary Assistants & Support Team
Carla Shumate - Veterinary Assistant
Carla has been part of the clinic team for 2 years, but her journey started earlier helping downstairs as a receptionist for Davie Dog House—until we “stole” her upstairs to join us as a tech! She brings a caring, detail-oriented approach to every patient she helps and loves supporting the team to provide the best possible care.
Outside the office, Carla enjoys baking, reading, and crafting, and she loves spending quality time with her nephew. She shares her home with her husband, Dwayne, and their two dogs, Remi and Tessa, who keep life lively and full of love.
Lindsay Carnes – Veterinary Assistant
Lindsay joined the team in 2018, working part-time before going full-time in 2020—and we haven’t let her escape since. As a veterinary assistant, she handles everything from assisting in surgery and drawing blood to wrangling wiggly puppies and calming anxious cats (and sometimes their humans).
Rabies vaccinated and fearless around feisty pets, Lindsay is known for her calm demeanor and magic touch with even the most nervous patients. She’s also the proud mom of Ginger, the unofficial clinic mascot and “support staff” Golden Retriever who faithfully reports for duty every Friday morning (treats preferred over paychecks).
Leigh Sherrill – Office Manager & Veterinary Assistant
Leigh is a dedicated Veterinary Technician and Office Manager who has been a vital part of the clinic for the past 19 years. Known for her reliability, leadership, and deep love for animals, she helps keep the clinic running smoothly while ensuring every patient receives the highest standard of care.
Outside of the office, Leigh enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris, and their son, Levi. She’s also a proud dog mom to Willow and Haven, who are never far from her side. When she’s not at work, Leigh can often be found working out or enjoying quality time with her family and pups. Her passion for animals and commitment to her team make her an irreplaceable part of the clinic family.
Emily Shelton – Senior Veterinary Assistant
Emily brings over 30 years of experience in the veterinary field and has been a valued member of our clinic for the past 19 years. With decades of hands-on knowledge, she offers a high level of technical skill, especially when it comes to assisting in surgery—one of her favorite parts of the job. Her steady presence, attention to detail, and dedication to patient care make her an essential part of our medical team.
Emily lives with her husband, Bobby, and their two sons, Griffin and Dawson. At home, she’s surrounded by furry companions including dogs Olive and Louie, and their cat Elvis. Outside the office, you’ll often find her at the ballpark cheering on Dawson, or spending quality time with her family. Emily’s passion for animals and her commitment to excellent care make her a cornerstone of our clinic.
Haley Flippin – Veterinary Assistant
Haley brings 3 years of hands-on experience in veterinary care and is currently expanding her knowledge by taking online vet tech courses. With a strong passion for animals and a drive to keep learning, she plays a key role in supporting both patients and the clinic team.
Outside of work, Haley is a proud dog mom to Reba and enjoys a mix of quiet and active hobbies—whether she’s getting lost in a good book or stepping into the boxing gym for a solid workout. Her balance of brains and strength (and love for all things furry) makes her a dynamic part of the team.
Meredith Fowler – Veterinary Assistant
Meredith has been part of the clinic family for 2 years, but her journey started even earlier—working downstairs in the kennels back in high school. Now, with hands-on experience and a strong work ethic, Meredith brings care, compassion, and familiarity to both patients and pet parents.
She’s married to her husband, Caleb, and is the proud dog mom to Weenie, a lovable mini dachshund who always keeps life interesting. Outside of work, Meredith enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. Her long-time connection to the clinic and deep love for animals make her a valuable part of the team.
Leah Lail – Veterinary Assistant
Leah has been a dedicated part of the clinic for 9 years and is known for her gentle touch and genuine love for patient care. Her top priority is making sure every animal feels safe, comforted, and cared for—treating each one like her own.
Leah is a proud dog mom to Ruger and enjoys spending her time outside the office with friends and family. Whether she’s supporting a patient through recovery or sharing laughs with loved ones, Leah brings heart and dedication to everything she does.
