Comprehensive Reproductive & Breeding Services in Advance, NC

Breeding dogs requires expert veterinary guidance to ensure a safe, healthy, and successful process. Led by Dr. Amber Nebel-Karp, a specialist in Comparative Theriogenology, our team provides comprehensive reproductive services for both breeding males and females.

We recommend that all breeding dogs undergo breed-specific health testing through AKC and OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) to ensure optimal health and reduce the risk of genetic diseases. Additionally, all breeding dogs should have a negative brucellosis test within the last six months, as this bacterial infection can cause infertility and pregnancy complications.

Our Reproductive & Breeding Services

Breeding Consultation & Health Testing:

  • Breeding soundness exams to evaluate reproductive health
  • Breed-specific health testing (OFA patellas & cardiology auscultation)
  • Same-day progesterone testing to determine optimal breeding time
  • Vaginal cytology & brucellosis testing for breeding females

Artificial Insemination & Fertility Services:

  • Semen collection, evaluation & shipping
  • Infertility work-up for males and females
  • Vaginal AI or Transcervical Insemination (TCI) using fresh or shipped semen

We recommend starting breeding management between days 5-8 of the heat cycle, using progesterone testing and vaginal cytology to track fertility. Most females require 1-5 breeding management visits before they are ready to be bred.

Pregnancy & Whelping Support:

  • Pregnancy diagnosis & high-risk pregnancy management
  • Pre-whelp radiographs to assess litter size & positioning
  • Scheduled & emergency C-sections for safe delivery
  • Neonatal care for newborn puppies

At your first breeding appointment, please provide:

  • Stud information & preferred breeding method
  • Number of breedings planned for this cycle
  • Type of semen used (fresh or shipped)

Medical & Surgical Reproductive Care:

  • Mismate diagnosis & pregnancy termination
  • Medical & surgical management of pyometra

Reproductive health is essential for breeding success. If you have concerns about infertility, pregnancy complications, or reproductive disorders, we provide advanced diagnostics and treatment options.
